Rotunde, Am Kulturgleis 3-5, 44787 Bochum
The local group Ruhr Area is organizing a discussion event “Do we need an AfD ban?” in Bochum. The event will be opened by Sabine Reich, designated director of the Prinz-Regent-Theater Bochum, and supporter of the initiative “Die Vielen” and the campaign “AfD-Verbot jetzt”.
Millions of people took to the streets against the AfD in early 2024. In doing so, they sent a clear signal for human dignity and against racist and nationalist politics. Nevertheless, we have seen alarming election results in three eastern German states, and the AfD's access to state financial and power resources has come within reach.
How do we deal with a party that pursues openly racist and nationalist policies and poses a real threat to minorities and those who think differently? Is the ban motion tabled by a group of members of the Bundestag the right way forward? What are the arguments for and against it? We want to discuss this on January 24, 7 p.m. in the Rotunda: The panel will include advocates (constitutional law expert Stefan Huster, MP Axel Schäfer), skeptics (Angelika Ivanov) and critics (Michèle Winkler).
