For years, the extreme right-wing AfD has been inciting hatred against refugees, people with a history of migration, queer people, people with disabilities and anyone else who does not fit into their racist, nationalist and social Darwinist world view. It was, is and remains clear to us that the AfD must not be given any rooms, stages, podiums, offices, mandates or funding. Many people took to the streets with us. The ban on the extreme right-wing party was often a topic of discussion.

The AfD is actively fighting against our democracy and its claim to equal rights for all people. It openly plans and demands the expulsion of millions of people. It openly gives militant neo-Nazis jobs in parliament, grants them access to sensitive information and allows them to quietly expand their networks in the police and judiciary. The AfD is so successful - and this distinguishes it from other extreme right-wing parties - that it is in danger of becoming a leading player in governments. And it would exploit this power mercilessly in order to undermine democratic institutions.

So there are many very good reasons to ban the AfD and the danger it poses is great enough to legally justify a ban.

The AfD has recently been officially classified as “confirmed right-wing extremist”. It is not only now that the time has come for the Bundestag to propose a ban. But now there are no more excuses! We call on the democratic parliamentary groups in the Bundestag to finally submit the necessary application for a ban!

We know that this process can take a long time. We know that even if the AfD is successfully banned, racism, hatred, group-focused misanthropy and social exclusion will not simply disappear. Nevertheless, it must be made as difficult as possible for the far right to gain a foothold and operate on a large scale. At the same time, this democracy must show that it is truly resilient when it counts.
